These amazing looking cupcakes were for Leni and her office chums who do complicated jobs involving international financial data or something like that! She asked for something with currency symbols on and admitted that line graphs were her life so the ideas came from there. The cupcake bases were light and fluffy vanilla sponge and the lush main toppings were either black fondant icing or ‘FT pink’ vanilla buttercream swirls. The black topped cakes were stamped with homemade currency stencils, then painted with several coats of gold edible lustre mixed with lemon juice. The FT pink cakes were festooned with either gold chocolate coins and gold dragees or little line graphs made from white fondant icing and decorated with black writing icing and multicoloured edible writer pens. How cool to do something a bit different from the usual!

tastygorgeous cupcakes is born!

As the poll was generally fun but a bit of a disaster, I’ve decided to ignore all of you and go with ‘Tastygorgeous Cupcakes‘, dreamt up somehow by Stacey Leigh Ross (http://www.creativeleigh.com) and me. I love it! It describes my cakes perfectly, I think, so I hope my customers will love it too.

Once Tastygorgeous is up and running officially (hopefully by the end of October), I will have a new proper/expensiver pricing structure so if you place an order before the end of the September, you will still be entitled to my current rate (from 50p a cupcake).

Don’t forget to leave any lovely cupcake comments if you have actually tasted any of them!

My best ones so far I think! These beautiful little cupcakes were made for a mother of the groom’s post-wedding party. The cakebases were white chocolate mudcake with vanilla buttercream swirly topping. They were decorated with pale pink, pale green and ivory handmade roses (yes, they took aaaages!), butterflies, hearts and flowers. The flip-flop cake was a special request for the blushing bride and I added some sparkles to the buttercream. Unfortunately I didn’t get to eat any but when the mother of the groom picked them up, she was so happy she cried! Bless her.

help! my cupcake business needs a name!

So, I’ve spent months and months trying to decide what to call my cupcake venture. It’s occupied my almost every waking thought! Until I decide, I can’t really do any proper marketing so please help me and vote in my new poll. I’ve listed a few of the ideas I’ve had or suggestions others have made but also add any ideas you have too! I will post the results when I’ve had enough votes and in the meantime, will have a think about pressies for those that help me choose the final name 🙂

For a sunny family get-together in the garden as commissioned by mum, I made these gorgeous cupcakes with fresh summer fruits. With a light vanilla sponge cake base, these cupcakes were decorated with juicy strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackcurrants and redcurrants on fresh cream, then dusted with a sprinkling of icing sugar. Perfect summer cupcakes.

Another successful job for Alex’s cocktail fuelled, Luau themed birthday party! These scrumptiously colourful cupcakes were gluten-free (yes, gluten-free!) but still light and and deliciously moist. The pina colada cake bases contained crushed pineapple and Malibu, topped with lovely coconut cream cheese frosting, with yet more Malibu. They were decorated with hand-made fondant hibiscus flowers, palm tress, surfboards, lei garlands, flipflops, more flowers and aloha greetings with added cocktail umbrellas. Don’t they look beautiful!

My first paid cupcake job for Grace’s 3rd princess themed birthday party. Wow – what a lot of work but they looked and tasted fabulous! The cake bases were pink chocolate mud cake, decorated with smooth pink and purple vanilla buttercream, and topped with letters, castles, shoes, crowns, dresses, necklaces and various sprinkled modelled with fondant icing and pink and silver sugar balls.

As a posh dessert for our dinner party with Karen and David, we had these lovely black forest gateau inspired cupcakes. Under the chocolate ganache, kirsh-spiked double cream, dark cherry and chocolate sprinkled topping was a crumbly-ish chocolate cake base with more cherries and even more kirsh.

In honor of Mr Ross’ birthday and Chelsea’s exit from some football tournament, I knocked up these yummy cupcakes with a generous helping of 1919 in the vanilla cake base, decorated with blue fondant icing and blue smarties. Chris added the wonky candles!

blueberry and lemon cupcakes

These gorgeous little blueberry and lemon cupcakes were made for my mum on mother’s day. The cake bases were made using polenta, which gives them a fabulous yellow colour and an interesting texture. They were also full of juicy fresh blueberries and topped with a lemony cream cheese frosting, more blueberries and lemon peel curls.
